A story in pictures

It won't be like this for long...

One day we're gonna look back laughing at;

The months after we brought her home...

This phase is gonna fly by,

If you can just hold on...

It won't be like this for long....

The truth is that he don't mind...

As he kisses her goodnight...

He already knows...

Someday soon she'll be a teenager, and at times we'll think she hates us...

And, just watchin' her it breaks his heart, cause he already knows.
It won't be like this for long.

One day soon that little girl will be all grown up and gone.

This phase is gonna fly by,

so just try to hold on.

Cause it won't be like this for long.

----------------

You all told me. But, I didn't listen until today. And, now I know that time is passing fast.

We don't spend time worrying that someone will take her away from us anymore. And we don't worry that we won't be able to be good parents anymore. And, we don't worry that she'll grow up to be a master criminal...well, not very often anymore.

Now we can just enjoy being around her most of the time. And, the rest of the time? Well, we've taught her how to be a good person and we give her the space and hope she remembers. But, just one more time, couldn't we sit on the bed and play UNO and cuddle that stupid gorilla?

That picture is from her first night in Texas. And, today, she's a teenager.

Thanks to Darius Rucker for the lyrics to the song "It won't be like this for long".

Have a great day. I think I'll go weep for a moment. Lane

  3. Think of home
    Home

    When I think of home
I think of a place where there's love overflowing
    I wish I was home
I wish I was back there with the things I been knowing

Wind that makes the tall trees bend into leaning
Suddenly the snowflakes that fall have a meaning
Sprinklin' the scene, makes it all clean

Maybe there's a chance for me to go back there
Now that I have some direction
It would sure be nice to be back home
    Where there's love and affection
And just maybe I can convince time to slow up
Giving me enough time in my life to grow up
Time be my friend, let me start again

Suddenly my world has changed it's face
But I still know where I'm going
I have had my mind spun around in space
And yet I've watched it growing

    If you're list'ning God
Please don't make it hard to know
If we should believe in the things that we see
Tell us, should we run away
    Should we try and stay
Or would it be better just to let things be?

Living here, in this brand new world
    Might be a fantasy
But it taught me to love
So it's real, real to me

    And I've learned
That we must look inside our hearts
To find a world full of love

I love you, I love our life and I love our family...see you at home.

  4. I blubbed like a baby when my DD started high school at almost 13. I remember thinking "in 5 years time she'll be finished high school". And here we are, almost two years on from that , and through lots of very rocky teen years. I want to know where the time went and so will you when you're at the other end.

Enjoy her, love her, set boundaries for her, and then release her in the knowledge you've done everything the best way you could. Your girl is going to fly.

She has gone from a young girl into the makings of a fine young woman. You have much to be proud of there. Happy Birthday Sydney.

  5. Happy birthday, Sydney! This post made me teary-eyed. I miss all the little girls that my daughters used to be, but I treasure the women they are now.

I love the gorilla and uno photo!

  8. Happy birthday Sydney-
May you enjoy a fun filled year- May you always know how much you are loved by your family.
    Warmest regards,
    Anna

    Lane,
It is hard when they grow up - you want them to but some days I miss the times when I could wrap my arms around his little body and read him a story. He is now a 6 foot two football player sized near 23 year old man who lives with his girlfriend ( close by so far). He moved out this spring and my husband and I became empty nesters immediately. We are proud of him but do sometimes miss when he was just a little boy- How did he grow up so fast..
    Regards,
    Anna
