blog, blogger, blogging

Is it just me, or are there fewer people posting?  And, also, fewer people reading.

I thought it was just me.  That my political views caused me to lose some followers.  But, then I noticed that some of the only bloggers posting regularly were the professionals.  And, one day I checked my views and I was only receiving half as many views.

My many thanks to my stalwart readers that have stuck with me!

And, I do believe the reduction is probably politics.  I know that some days, I'm just too shocked by what is going on in the world to be able to write something cheerful and entertaining.  And, honestly, I'm torn about posting about what I'm feeling because when the wrong people get wind of that, they retaliate horribly and threateningly.  And, I'm just not up for that crapful of hate that has been unleashed and allowed to flourish.  All because civility has died an spiteful orange death.

So, I sew.  And, I quilt.  And, I garden.  And, I try to cook and clean.  And, I make sure I get out of bed every morning and face the world, no matter how bad I don't want to sometimes.  And, I make sure that at least once a week, I check in with you all.  The other people out there that accept me for who I am.  Whether they agree or not.  And, we treat one another with civility.  Whether we agree or not.  And, nobody has said I'm crazy for the extremes I'm willing to go to for a beautiful piece of fabric art in a really long time.

My connection with what I have to believe is the real world.

So, I'll just keep doing my best to dull every needle in the world by using it to death.  And, tinkering with sewing machines and risking my life through electrocution as I use the ones I've worked on.  And, trying to use up this stash of fabric and yarn that I accidentally ended up with.  And, sitting still in the air conditioning because honestly, that's what we do in August in the south (climate change is real, y'all!).  And, walking through the office with a smile on my face because I see how people react to that, and it makes me happy.  And, doing my best to be a good man, because good men might be in danger of going extinct.

Here's looking forward to some cool fall days and some cooler heads in the near future.

This little quilt always reminds me of fall.

Everybody have a great Friday.  Rob has the day off, but I have to go to the office...this has been the busiest week!  Way too many things going on and I am exhausted.  I'm looking forward to some nice pieceful quilting this weekend.

Lane

I very much enjoy your blog. I do believe that some bloggers ended up finding it a chore to blog for whatever their reason is.

Thanks, Sharon in Colorado

I think that some people are getting bored of blogging. I don't sew much in the summer so that has made a difference to how often I blog.

I read your blog, but don't subscribe. I am also bad about commenting, so you might not recognise my name.

Yours was one of the first blogs I followed, long before I started blogging. I don't even remember how I learned about you. I have dropped most of the "professional" blogs from my reading list; I'd rather hear from/about "real" people with real quilting struggles like mine.

I read your blog, but rarely comment. I do think that alot of bloggers are using Instagram or something similar, which is "easier" & "quicker"? I don't do anything other than read my favorites, and I do appreciate all of them. I LOVE all your quilting projects and just hearing about all your projects-whether work or not. I am in New York, so I also am interested in hearing about your neck of the woods, etc. Thank you for going to all the trouble you do, I still read & enjoy! Janine Baker

Instagram has taken the place for lots of bloggers. I like Instagram, but I will continue to blog because I can include all the details. I often refer back to my own blog to remember how I did something. There's no "search" function on Instagram that I'm aware of.
Here's to happy blogging!

I fall into the category of reading but not often posting. However, I love your blog and reading of the day to day life, gardening, sewing, etc. Hope you have a great day and get to dull more needles along the way.

Hi there: I've been reading your blog since I found MPB's blog. You seen to always hit the nail on the head as far as everything goes. I look forward to seeing what you are doing and how it is going.
I'm retired and in OR. Still learning how to do the finer points of quilting. I also make artsy dolls.

I love the realness of your blog and look for a new post every day. I don't blog, but I read a lot of them. Some have become too commercialized with their sponsors, but thankfully, you are just a real down to earth normal person. I seldom comment only because I would be long winded, and need to save some of my time for actually quilting! Blog when you have time, because you certainly are fun to follow!

I'm not a blogger or a quilter, but read your blog because you're a good and interesting person, honest about your struggles.

Turning on the computer, I check your blog first thing, every day. I appreciate your civility, your good example, and your lovely quilts. Your parenting is top notch. Your blog is like the rising sun, an encouraging way to start the day (perhaps not the best comparison with your current heat wave, but come winter, that warmth and light are mighty welcome).

I read your blog (among other reasons) because I like to keep current with fellow man quilters. Keep it up.

Your blog is one of my favorites! So, please don't be discouraged or stop posting. Sorry, I seldom comment, but I do enjoy your variety of topics.

I have close to 100 blogs in my Reader. I've noticed the number of posts (from everyone) slow way down in the summer months. Ppl are outside enjoying themselves. Kids are outta school...younger ones with their activities take up a lotta time. Vacations are happening. Ppl are busy with other things. Come fall...ppl get back into a more structured schedule...then they have more time for the internet.

I've been reading your blog for maybe a year but don't subscribe. I enjoy following your quilting and gardening and general life comments. I hope that you keep blogging when you have the time and energy. Dot Wankat said it well.
I rarely comment and don't blog but do enjoy reading what other quilters are doing. Your quilts are glorious! Thanks for sharing.

I'm still here; you pop into my Inbox whenever you write, and very nice it is too, to see what you are up to!

People are busier these days, I think; I write a blog for the quilt group I run, but it does go in fits and starts........

I don't share your political views, you don't share mine. You love your family and I love mine. You make quilts, and I never have. I'm a woman you're a man. I love to sew and so do you. And I love your blog! Don't get discouraged and keep writing. We're all different. Others may need to accept that idea and start enjoying life!

Please keep blogging Lane. I believe that you're correct - many quilt bloggers have stopped blogging. Some seem to have switched to Instagram, others to Facebook. Others who have maintained their blogs seem to be focussed on making money out of it and include advertising or sponsored posts, both of which cause me to lose interest.

I'm not keen on either Instagram or Facebook because the posts tend to be 'short and snappy'. I'm interested in the story behind the pics, the insights into the thinking, and the revelations of the person behind the blog. I appreciate that it's a risk to expose yourself to the whole world on your blog and I appreciate your commitment to doing so.
