Nothing better to do

Even with 387 projectsa started, I have got a bee in my bonnet to start something new.

I can’t help it.  This is called Barbed Wire Fence and it’s in a book called Twosy-Foursey Quilts by Cathy Wierzbicki and it would make a huge dent in the last of the homespun fabric.  Basically, everything in the book is cut from either 2 1/2” or 4 1/2” strips.  I like that.  Simple.  And, I bet I could knock this out of the park while Syd and Rob are away this weekend.

Who needs sleep?

I don’t know if I’ll actually do this or try to pick something else that is already started.  There certainly are a lot of other projects I could be working on.

Like the perpetual hexie project.

Here I am trying to pick a border…Again!

Do I do medium-dark-medium?  Or dark-light-dark?

Actually, neither.  I thought I’d like those striped rows better than I do and I’m thinking of taking them out and replacing them with more borders of the hexie flowers.  As much work as the quilt is, I really need to settle on something I’m going to really, really, really like.  Maybe this weekend, I’ll clear the dining table and lay this on there and just play until I finally find my lost direction.  I’m really tired of putting things together and then taking them apart.  I’m really ready to find a direction and stick with it.  At this point, I’m spending more time replacing sections than I am thinking them up.

So, another thing to add to the weekend to-do list.  Figure out the borders and stop thinking about it so I can just build.

Everybody have a great Thursday.  Tomorrow I have the day off and Rob and Syd are leaving town and the dogs and I are going to sew.  And, garden.  And, eat turnip greens and butterbeans and cornbread and sweet potatoes and all the things that I grew up on that Rob doesn’t care for.

Everybody have a great rest of the week.  Lane

I like the dark-light-dark border. It makes a nice compliment to the medium-dark-medium above the orange flowers. Whatever you decide will be great, though. You always do a beautiful job with tone and contrast and design.

Enjoy your three-day weekend of quietness! It sounds like you've got a lot of great things planned.

Agree about the dark-light-dark. Adds a lovely striking contrast.

I'm stuck on the sashing for a crumb quilt-- set the single-colored blocks in white? Put crumb sashes with a mix of the colors in the blocks they're in between?

Your menu sounds yummy. My husband hates most veg, and can't tolerate broccoli, even the smell. So when he's out, I eat broccoli.

your food sounds lovely, just what I would eat. A plant diet is do healthy.
I did smile when I read that first sentence, I think a lot of us will be empathising with you. I have never met a quilter who monogamous and worked on one thing at a time, til it was finished, before starting another.

Mmmm...I like vinegar on my greens. We kept a little vinegar pitcher on the table. Mom cooked ours in bacon grease. My favorite greens are dandelions. Have a fun weekend! I love alone time...VERY rare, but nice.

Good morning Lane,

Oh the food thing cracks me up. My DH has been gone for a couple days and I am doing the same thing. I bought supermarket sushi at my grocery store, DH is not a fan. It wasn't too bad as they do make it there daily. Also bought 4 crab rangoons which I snacked on for my own brunch yesterday.

My freezer here at the house had some good finds that DH wouldn't appreciate, one was thoughtfully labeled homemade Mac and cheese casserole with ham for one! I also found a small container of split pea soup enough for 2 bowls. I had one bowl with the Rangoon brunch and one for dinner.

Lets see, tonight I have a ticket for a local fire dept fundraiser for Fish Boil! DH is not a fan of that either so whoo hoo! We are in Wisconsin on Lake Michigan and fish boil is an event not to be taken lightly, these folks are serious. We have been to this particular one before and it is great. I am going to do take out as I'm alone this time and I know from the past that it will be enough for two meals.

Hexie s.... I have just started a project to have some hand work on hand when I'm out and about. When you have time google Mary Leggetts Star Bouquet quilt. There is a blog featuring it called Every Stitch. She did a post in January of this year showing a photo of the original quilt dated 1862. The blogger is from Australia and started making one version for herself inspired by Mary Leggetts quilt picture. So I am making my own version similar to the 1862 and the above bloggers one.
So it's hexie s and stars, kind of fun. So far I have just 4 stars with the hexie surrounds, a nice slow project.

By the way, I really do enjoy your style of writing on your blog. You are very thoughtful and real in your posts, not just a one or two liner. Just wanted to let you know that.
I check various blogs with my am coffee and yours is always checked!

Thanks for the link to Robs video of the quilt show. What I did find of more interest was another video of you treading and hear your voice and Robs too. Fun!

Thanks again Lane. Get some good stitching in and eat some different foods this weekend.
