Sappy day

Today is our anniversary; Rob’s and mine.  We’ve been together 14 years.

This is the card he gave me and it is sooooo true.

We’ve been through a lot together.  You’ve seen me at my best, my worst, & first thing in the morning.  We’ve laughed & kissed & argued and loved and held hands.

Well, that’s what it said on the outside.  Inside was more personal.

There is no public record of our relationship, except that we are one another’s beneficiaries.  Our only record at home is this quilt that I made for our fifth anniversary.  And, when he wished me happy anniversary this morning, I said “are you sure?  Did you check the quilt?”  And, he said yes and smiled because I always think it’s the 23rd.

So, there’s that.  And, I am misty eyed from seeing the picture of it.

I’ll close with this…and it’s pretty public.

I love you Dear.  Enough to change who I was and be a better person.  There is no greater gift than that.

But, I’ll still take you out to dinner tonight, just you and me.

Lane

Happy Anniversary! It is good to have days to remember the reasons why we fell in love, because sometimes that gets lost in the every day shuffle. Sticking it out and being on the same team is what it's all about. I hope you two enjoy your dinner tonight.

Happy Anniversary!

I love the quilt. The next one needs to have one of those genealogical lines and show Sydney as your offspring. Because happiness is loving someone so much it turns into a family.

14 Years, that is a long time! I wish for the both of you only the best. It doesn't have to be recorded, as long as the two of you remember. I hope you will exceed mine and your Dad's 55 years by at least 20 years. lum

Congratulations! Many, many more years together for you. And I second the motion that you should have another quilt for Sydney that shows the family tree with her added in. Life is a continuum, and it's good to have it documented (even if some things are not yet recorded!). Happy day to you all.

How I long for a change in the law, so that you may celebrate your wedding day xx

What a wonderful day it is! Wishing you both the best that a great relationship has to offer. So sweet.

I am also sorry that legally all you can be is beneficiaries...UGH...to wait for that event to happen to acknowledge your relationship is just WRONG!

Happy Anniversary, Rob and Lane! I think that a quilt is a much better "record" of a marriage than a piece of paper from the court house. A quilt is a metaphor for the love, comfort, and care you take of one another every day. Also like marriage, a handmade quilt is imperfect, with some areas reflecting the "for better" and other areas showing "for worse." :-) Here's wishing you many happy anniversaries to come.

Sappy Day???
I say Happy Day! It's so nice to care for and have someone care for you. We have sappy/happy days all the time, even after 35 years together.

Sounds like you both enjoyed the day. Thank you so much for sharing with us out in blogland.
