Stripes and plaids

We made it to the quilt show on Sunday.  We didn’t stay long.  Just long enough to walk through and see all the quilts.  I didn’t shop any of the vendors.  I just wasn’t in the mood to shop.  But, it was nice, getting to see the quilts with Rob and Sydney.  We all walk through quilt shows at a different pace, so we split and then recombine in different configurations as we go.  Just before we left, I met them in front of my The Point is the Points quilt.

There were two ladies, heads close together, discussing the quilt.  I couldn’t hear them, but Sydney was obviously listening.  One said “She mixed plaids and stripes in this quilt.  That’s why you should take classes, so you learn not to do that.”

(Okay, with all those little pieces, how could you tell plaids and stripes? And, who the heck was looking at the fabric anyway, it’s the points that are the point, right?)  And, who is "she"?  Lane is the man standing behind you.

If she’s reading here, Sydney wanted to congratulate you on your courage, for leaving the house after your hairdresser dyed your hair that color.  She thought it was very brave of you.

Gotta love a kid that shares your sense of humor.  You never know who’s standing behind you.

Thank you all for your well wishes.  I’m feeling better.  Now, Sydney has it.  But, she’s so much better able to handle it that it hasn’t taken her down like it did me.  Yesterday, I worked from home.  It’s so nice to be able to do that on those days when you don’t feel too bad, but you’re making gross noises like excessive coughing, sneezing and nose blowing.

Everybody have a great Wednesday.  Between naps, I’ve been sewing and have a couple new projects to share this week.

Lane

what a riot. I have learned to be really careful what I say in front of quilts. I also love to listen to what people are saying about mine. Sometimes I say "that's mine" and sometimes I don't, lol

Good Afternoon Lane, How cheeky, I wonder how they would have felt if you had told them that it was your quilt.... I'm sure they would have been very embarrassed. What is it they say 'if you can't think of anything good to say, then don't say anything at all'.
I have to tell you Lane, your quilt is spectacular.
Glad to hear you are feeling a little better.
Best Wishes
Daphne

That quilt is fantastic -- and very modern I might add - in my view, especially your choice of fabrics. But, if the quilt viewers are not in on trends they couldn't now. Poor quilt viewers. Obviously, they need to take classes and read blogs:) Honestly, I bristled at that comment and I'm not there! Hope you and Sydney are feeling better!

Lovely, lovely quilt. Not being a quilter, I do not know the rules of quilting, but that looks like art to me and isn't the idea of art to break the rules?

If the results look as great as this quilt, mix all the plaids and stripes you want! Glad you're feeling better.

How funny! A lot of wonderful antique quilt tops that were never quilted that show up in the shops are victims of this mindset. The quilters made them, and because their use of color or dark/light in the squares didn't match the values in the newspaper patterns, they never made them up because they got criticized for not "making them right." How sad for them-- it's the plaids and stripes and other such wonderful things that give your quilt its prize winning sparkle.

Congratulations!! You actually got to see the QUILT POLICE! Boooooo!!!! I hate people like that. Jealous because she couldn't have made that quilt in a million years. She probably doesn't even quilt!! Now that I am riled up for the day, I have a lot to accomplish. She's lucky I wasn't there for her comments....you know what I would'a done to her. She would be extracting my shoe from her A$$!!

Sydney sounds like my kind of people, If there are in fact people out there who can look at Point in the Points and not be instantly awed by all those points, I suggest they get an eye exam and seek pro help.
