Listen to the child

I changed my border idea for the mini quilt based on feedback from Sydney.

She came in and saw this combination of borders and gave well reasoned and sound feedback about color and scale.  I just stood there with my mouth open.

She’s growing up so fast.

Anyway, I’m glad I did listen to her because it led me through a few other auditions, to this border.

I like this border better.  Between the sawtooth border and the red, narrow border, there are applique swags.  Haven’t quite picked a fabric for that yet.

Anyway, the fabric isn’t a floral.  I don’t have many florals and wasn’t thinking outside the box of the floral in Sally Collins original quilt.  But, when Sydney got me to look again, I found this fabric and I like it much better.

Now that the border is so dark, I’m thinking of a lovely smokey purple for the swag.  Since I started making this quilt, I’ve wanted to use that fabric in the swag and every time I had to make a decision, I chose something that wasn’t really going to let me use that purple.  But, I think it will look good with this darker, heavier border fabric.

Everybody have a great Thursday.  Lane

Well, at least you have a good sounding board right in your home! Love the borders and of course, I LOVE the idea of using the purple! Purple ROCKS!

Love you.

That quilt is getting better and better. Sydney has a real sensitivity to color and layout, it shows in her photography, too. It's so cool to have someone to collaborate with right there with you.

Wow. Just wow!

It sounds like Sydney has a little bit of artist in her. How awesome!

Copy your fabric and cut swags out of the paper to test.
