Searching for man sized thimbles…again

Here we go again.

Four years ago, I went in search of a thimble that would fit.  Here’s a link to one of those posts…BTW, it’s really cool when I search for something like “man sized thimble” and google brings back a link to my blog!

I found a distributor that sold thimbles to men who play the washboard.  I bought a half dozen thimbles.  And, they’re good thimbles.  I really like them.  But, a couple have come up missing over the last four years and I like to drop a thimble into my different project bags and leave them there.  That way, I don’t have to think about whether I have one or not.  And, I still have a dream of owning a really nice silver thimble.

So, I’m back on the hunt.  My previous distributor is still in business, but he is out of thimbles.  There was a problem with the manufacturer.  So, that sent me back on the hunt.  In a half dozen days, I have bought three.  One is the heavy silver thimble I dream of.  But, before I would spend the money, I had a couple of exchanges with the seller and she measured it, so it should fit, and if it doesn’t, she takes returns.  Can hardly go wrong there.

The other two should be identical to the thimbles I’m using.  One is pre-owned and the other is new.  If the new one fits, they have more for sale and they’re pretty cheap, so I will likely buy several.

Oh, and if you read that post linked in, there’s a frank discussion of having to buy undergarments with Syd.  Thank goodness that’s all over.  Now, I can stroll through the men’s department and when she has found what she wants, she comes and finds me.  And, I try not to make a face.  It was kind of weird to read that because we’ve come so far and I forget about the little stuff that happened.

Everybody have a great Wednesday.  I’m fitting pieces together on the next mini-border.  At lunch today, I’ll try to draft it out and see what I like.  Or, don’t like.

Is the heavy silver thimble from Roxanne's, Lane? I love my Roxanne thimble -- need to get another hand quilting project into the hoop soon! I hope you find one that's a good fit for you.

I love to hand sew, but have yet to find my perfect thimble. My rubber one fits nicely but the needle sometimes pierces it right through and my metal one has a lip which rubs my other finger. Any tips Lane? you must be quite the thimble expert by now!

You have probably already done this, but it seems TJ Lane thimbles could make one for you - no? I have one of their thimbles, and I love it... pricey, but a treasure...

Hate to say it but I bought a TJ Lane thimble probably in 2007 or so at a really big show, Chicago I think.

I have never regretted it. My gal friend has one and I had been admiring it for two years. I finally got one at that big show and that was about all I bought. The gal at the show fitted it to my finger right there at the booth. It fits nice and snug.

One nice thing is that there is a fingernail opening so there's no pressure on the end of the fingernail. I keep my nails pretty trim but if I would use a regular thimble my nail would still hit the end.

Couple years ago I thought I had lost it and that it might have gotten thrown out by mistake. I was beside myself. It was on a small table top with other hand sewing things. Six to eight weeks later I found it on the floor oh happy day.

If I take it anywhere I can thread it on a silver chain because of the fingernail opening and wear it as a necklace. Bonnie Hunter does that. If you look at some of the photos of her you will see it.
You might not be able to rock the look of a silver thimble hanging around your neck on a chain but who am I to say?
I wouldn't trust mine in my pocket alone. If you do get one you can most likely create something like a watch fob, clip it on your belt loop and the thimble can rest in the tiny watch pocket in your jeans.

Hoping you lunch hour was creative on drafting the next border.

Me again. I just googled her and the company will be vending March 13-15 at the Dallas quilt show. Once you find her site click on schedule. Don't know how far Dallas is from you but keep in the back of your mind as a possible opportunity.

Another thought. I'll bet if you contacted TJ Lane one could be made large enough and they might be able to have it for the Dallas show.

I hope you find a good thimble. I have fat fingers and have yet to find one that is comfortable, I want to try big stitch hand quilting and think I will need to find something that fits before I start that. The samples for your class look very difficult! but I would bet your class will be fun. Bernie
