Progress and another Sudie quilt

Here is the hexagon so far.  At this point, I’m starting to recognize the size of it because progress comes so much more slowly and that feels discouraging, so I keep laying it out and looking at it and showing it off because if I don’t, I’m going to lose my excitement and I’m not ready for that yet.  It’s great finger work.

I’m going to skip a border and then make the one after that.  The border I skip is a spacer, where my repetition of the brown flowers changes, and I don’t know how many rows I’ll have to insert to make that transition yet.  I can’t plan it until I know how wide it needs to be, right?

Anyway, I’m thinking that three more borders, including the two described above is going to be about it for me on this one. Because my fingers are itching to get back to some sock knitting.  I am definitely in the mood.

I’m going to start with a repair.  Sydney’s dog chewed a big hole in two of my hand knitted socks.  This one, I only had to take apart back to the heel.  The other one is a total loss and will have to be remade.  THEN, if I’m still in the mood, I can start something new.  But, most likely, I’ll finish one and be out of the mood again.  That’s just me.

Okay, another Sudie quilt.  And, I apologize to Sudie for not ironing it before I took these photos.  But, honestly, I’m not going to iron it until I’m ready to do something with it.

This trip around the world quilt is hand pieced.

The last two rows are pinned on, but not sewn on yet.  And, guess what…

These are the fabrics in the quilt, so if I was really ambitious, I could extend it to be a square…maybe.  I’d have to make some substitutions, but most of it would be there.  That seems to take something away from it though and I’d rather just finish her two rows and then quilt it.  I’d like to take my giant dahlia templates and trace them on it and quilt that into it.  It would be pretty quick and it would really meld down into the piecing.

Okay, leaving you with Shasta Daisies.

Be well.  Lane

Wow! Hand piecing. I wouldn't even know where to start without my machine :) I only do English paper piecing by hand!

How lovely to see Sudies hand made quilt. I would love to know more about her.
Shasta daisies, thankyou Lane, I couldn't remember what they were called. I love it that my English garden and your American one, have the same flowers :-)

What is it about hand stitching that makes my heart flutter? I'm a sucker for the latest technology, but I find myself drawn more and more to hand work. What a treasure for you to be able to complete this quilt for Sudie. I think it's kind of like you're time traveling, don't you? :-)
I want to know more about these Giant Dahlia templates you mentioned, though. Are they for marking a quilting pattern, for piecing a Giant Dahlia, or both? That's one quilt pattern that is on my "do" list for someday when my skills are more up-to-snuff!

Your poor socks! Glad you still have the yarn.

Sudie's quilt is charming. I don't know if I'd want to hand-sew a quilt. I have hand-quilted machine pieced quilts, but the machine stitches are so much stronger than mine.

Sudie's quilt will look great when you have applied your magic to it, can't wait to see it finished.
Hand sewing for me is very relaxing. I should get my hexie's out and sit on my back deck as my honeysuckle is full of blooms this year and smells heavenly, must be because of the wet Spring we had. Waiting for my Shasta's to start blooming.
Have a great day.

Loving the hexagon. Are all the hexies made and you're just piecing them together, or is this a 'hex as you go' project?

Good Morning to you, Whilst having a look around other friends blogs, I came across yours and decided to pop over and say hello.... and I am so glad I did.
Sudie's quilt is going to be gorgeous, you have so much patience to hand stitch it, but what a feeling of achievement you will have when it is finished. I will have to read other posts to find out who Sudie is.
I love hand sewing and beadwork, I can get lost for hours when I am focused.
Shasta Daisies are lovely, yours are in flower, whilst here in England, mine are in bud, so I am waiting for a little sunshine to allow the little beauties to flower.
I am sorry, but I could not find your name, but I wanted you to know that I have become a new follower.
I would like to invite you to visit me at Ivy, Phyllis and Me! when you have time to spare, as it would be lovely to see you there.
Have a lovely weekend.
Best Wishes
Daphne
